OVERVIEW: Chemcote was tasked with extending the service life of plant pipe externals and discovered severe localized pitting during inspections. A quick and effective composite repair solution was essential. Explore how Chemcote’s advanced techniques successfully restored the integrity and prolonged the life of heavily corroded pressure pipes.
INDUSTRY
ENVIRONMENT
Nitrogen line externals
SUBSTRATE
Steel pipe externals
CHALLENGE
On site work could only be achieved within a short outage achieve thorough cleaning and surface preparation
SOLUTION
EWP used to access pipe externals
SCOPE
Mobilise to Site
Mechanical clean using needle gun then bristle blaster.
Mask off critical areas
Assess pit depth by using gauge and apply 1 coat of Epo-chem™ RS 500P where pipe wrapping required
Application of 2 coats of Epo-chem™ RL 500PF
Apply Epo-chem RC500 GTC
Un-mask & demobilise
OUTCOME
This project focused on maintaining external steel pipes under challenging conditions, including hard-to-reach areas and on-site containment work. With comprehensive surface preparation, pit depth analysis, and the strategic application of protective coatings, Chemcote extended the lifespan and durability of plant pipe externals, ensuring lasting protection and cost efficiency.
