Surface Preparation

Services

The vast majority of premature industrial and marine coating failures can be traced back to one cause: sub-standard surface preparation.

Chemcote’s anti-corrosion solutions begin with meticulous surface preparation which includes selecting the best surface preparation method for each project and then thoroughly removing all existing corrosion and contaminants to properly prepare the surface for coating adhesion.

Mechanical Preparation

Bristle Blasting

Bristle blasting is a mechanical surface preparation method that removes corrosion, rust, mill scale, and coatings from metal surfaces. It cleans and creates an anchor profile in one step, unlike typical abrasive blasting, by using a rotary tool with hardened wire bristles that impact and bounce from the surface.  This tool creates peaks and troughs, increasing the surface area resulting in improved coating adhesion. Bristle blasting, is the ideal hand held, non-intrusive tool used for corrosion treatment, industrial maintenance, is a simple and efficient alternative to standard blasting techniques.

Needle Gunning

Needle gunning is a surface preparation method that uses a tool with multiple steel needles that rapidly oscillate to remove rust, old coatings, and corrosion from metal surfaces. It is ideal for localised cleaning, weld seam preparation, and areas with heavy corrosion buildup.

Abrasive Blasting

Abrasive blasting is one of our most used methods of surface preparation.

A key benefit of abrasive blasting is that it does change the surface profile by creating deeper valleys and higher peaks increasing the surface area thicker coating require for improved coating adhesion.

We select the size of abrasive particles to best meet the needs of each situation and achieve a super clean surface.

Our large enclosed workshop chamber enables us to perform blasting in a controlled environment. Our mobile operation allows us to carry out onsite abrasive blasting with the addition of dehumidification and dust collection where required.

Ultra High Pressure Water Blasting

Ultra high pressure water blasting is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective method of removing old coatings and surface contaminants that requires no post blasting clean up.

This method is preferred when dustless and targeted high pressure cleaning is required.

Can be used to remove most coatings, i.e. rubber lining, heavy corrosion, scale, and chemical residues.
