OVERVIEW: Due to the high cost associated with environment control and grit removal, abrasive blasting could not be carried out. Chemco’s range of surface/moisture tolerant coatings which are solvent free were applied following mechanical cleaning and high pressure water blasting of the surface.
ENVIRONMENT
Sea mist & sludge
SUBSTRATE
Mild Steel
CHALLENGE
Due to the high cost associated with environment control and grit removal, abrasive blasting could not be carried out
SOLUTION
Mechanical clean and high pressure water blast the surfaces to be treated. Chemco’s range of surface/moisture tolerant coatings which are solvent free will provide a minimum 10 years corrosion protection.
SCOPE
Assess floor area after sludge removal
Mechanical clean (some areas difficult to reach)
High pressure water blast up to 19,000 PSI
Stripe coat all welds and sharp corners using RS 500P
Apply 1 coat of RS 500P to a DFT of 100µm
Install Fibreglass patches over holes and apply 1 coat of RA 532
DFT checks to ensure require thickness is reached

OUTCOME
The client was extremely pleased with the results, particularly due to the degree of difficulty. Oil Platform passed all DNV requirements
