OVERVIEW: A steel production plant contracted Chemcote to reinforce a failing 25 year old corrugated pipe located in a settling pond.
INDUSTRY
ENVIRONMENT
Storm water with coke fines fall out from coke basin
SUBSTRATE
25 year old corroded corrugated pipe
CHALLENGE
A confined pipe opening over a channel posed access difficulties. Our specialist crew was able to reduce abrasive media in the settling pond by encapsulating the entry point and working through a small window
SOLUTION
A moisture resistant coating which is unaffected by water and humidity during application was required. The Epo-chem™ wet and surface tolerant primer and top coat system was chosen
SCOPE
High pressure hot wash internals to remove contaminants
Whip abrasive blast
Apply 1 coat Epo-chem™ RS 500P
Apply 1 coat Epo-chem™ RA 500M
Apply basalt fibre consolidated with Epo-chem™ RA 500M
PRODUCTS
OUTCOME
Our specialist team was able to overcome the access difficulties posed by a confined opening over a channel to deliver a 2-coat barrier solution. The Epo-Chem system was ideal for this environment as it cures underwater, allowing the pipe to return to service immediately with full protection from future stormwater damage.
